Problems playing AVI Video files on Creative Zen

I got a Creative Zen MP3 player. I am having a problem playing videos on it. I copy and drag the video files into it when docked. Though when I go to play the video files the Zen freezes. The videos are AVI files. Anybody got a Zen on here & had the same problem?

Is the format compatible? Are you using a compatible res?

A possiblity I suppose? AVI files are common I thought & assumed that the Creative would play them.

Though just looked on the Zen website for the spec. This is what listed

WMV and DivX/XviD support (320x240)

You probably have to use the video conversion software in the Zen Media centre and then you can transfer or sync the files. The Zen has very limited video support (like the audio) and you'll have to convert most formats. My DivX files wouldn't play directly, but the converted .wmv files were fine. It takes a long time though.

OK thanks. I'll look in the media centre tonight.

If too much hassle I won't bother. Just wanted to use it to show some videos to my mates down the pub.

It is a bit of hassle, though the video and audio quality after conversion was pretty good. Having said that, I hate having multiple formats cluttering up hard drives, so I'm just using the Zen for MP3s and a few music videos. Also a movie-sized conversion would probably take an overnight run, unless you have a very powerful PC to do the job.

If it's anything like the Clix You do have to covert to precisely 320x240for it to work.

I tried lots of options for converting for the kids' Clix and failed plenty of times. In the end I used MediaCoder and a preset from the Clix forums. Since then, perfect results every time.
