    Hi

After my headphone socket on my laptop stopped working (the 3rd laptop in as many years to do so), I bought a usb sound card from ebay. I have bought these before and they simply plug into your usb port and have a socket for a set of headphones. You can then use this as if it were your original headphone socket and adjust the volume with the normal buttons on the front of the laptop.

This time though, when I try to adjust the volume control nothing happens. Its either muted or on full volume. The only way to adjust the level of noise coming through my headphones is to go into the advanced settings on my windows xp volume control and adjust the Wave volume instead. I've tried playing with the settings and installing all the software that came with the usb soundcard but I can't get my normal volume control buttons to either adjust the wave volume, or get the usb audio card to run thru the main volume control rather than the wave.

Does anyone know how to fix this??
