Mmmm, well after just buying my hubby the tomtom 510 a week ago , we r already having a problem ! it seems to be frozen .... won`t turn off ...won`t do anything when we touch the screen, have tried running the battery down ,, tried charging it up, removed the card .... Anyone any ideas .... if this can be fixed .... or should we contact the manufacturer, I bought from Amazon, so will have to have a look at the returns procedure, in case ... but hoping its just a temporary glitch.

reset the unit by turning it upside down, and sticking a paper clip in the "re set hole" check your user manual if you are unsure

The hard reset should do the trick. If it doesn't, let us know. The 510 is a pretty nice gadget, so hopefully this will fix the problem.

I heard that TomTom are thinking of including a free paperclip with all their X10 models. It's the most used accessory apparently.

Just glad to know it all worked out for you/ Make sure your firmware is the most up to date as well b/c the most recent one was supposed to help out the 510.

IMHO - you should not load new firmware ASAP when it comes out. I would advise waiting at least 2 - 3 weeks, and let the early adopters figure out if the firmware is good.

If you watch the TomTom Home site, they will post an update - then take it down after 2 days (due to newly discovered bugs in the release).

Err on the side of caution!

I had that problem, too, and the paperclip reset trick fixed it. Also, mine has had some issues when it gets really really cold (sub zero)...but it's fine once it gets back up over 0.

Well, long time since my original post regarding this Tomtom, we have had over a year, with everything running smoothly, now we are at deadlock, please can anyone help, first of all we have tried, the paper clip thingy. LOL no help this time Im afraid, it will not switch on, will not reset, will not charge up, when we try to reset, the screen lights up for a second then goes off, thats as far as we can get ... the year warranty is now up, as we bought last august.
What can we do now ???

Exactly the same thing has happened with ours just yesterday - reset will not work - green light shows there is power going through but unit will just not switch on - & just outside 12 month warranty - will give it a go though - although any other ideas most welcome.

Ring up TomTom Customer support to check, my TomTom One v2 comes with 2 years TomTom warranty. (I understand the latest v3 has only one year though, less reliable may be?)

Thankyou, just to let you know where we`re at ... we contacted Tomtom, who sent us out a box freepost, to send the tomtom back to them, & they are going to repair it free of charge, not sure how long this will all take, but thats the news so far, will let you know how we get on.

    Hello,
I had exactly the same symptoms when I connected my tomtom 510 to my PC and then disconnected it without disconnecting it via the software first.
The solution for me was to connect to my PC and then disconnect using the PC software before manually disconnecting.
I had to do a couple of resets along the way, as the device seems quite tempramental about what order you do things.

Thanks for the tip. Had a similar problem with my TT one V3 today. Did as you said and reset it twice and re-ran TT home application. Left it connected for about 5 minutes while I decided which hammer to fetch from the garage to inflict maximum destruction upon it when it suddenly burst in life. and the screen displaying "Do you wish to connect to a computer?" was displayed. (EDIT my battery was flat so this might have been a factor)
