    Hi

My Panasonic TH-42PWD4 plasma screen appears to have developed fault. Half a column of pixels only show blue (or black). Has anyone else had this problem? If so is it easy to fix? Any ideas what has caused this? The screen is nearly 3yrs old and I would estimate has been used for around 4000 hours. Anyone else had problems out of warranty that Panasonic have repaired free of charge?

    Thanks for any help
    Matt

That might be a bit old for an 'out of warranty' fix for free, but well worth asking, and if not free finding out how much.

I think I might try the fit for purpose route under the sale of goods act. If I recall I've read somewhere that the 'life' of a Plasma is in excess of 20,000 hours and any TV type product should last more than 3 yrs. At the end of the day if you don't ask you don't get!

They ought at least to subsidise it you'd have thought. That might be a reasonable compromise. The repair is probably a couple of hundred quid as long as it's fixable.

Did it say in the manual or a review for your PWD4 that it would last for 20,000 hours.

I thought only the last couple of gen panys had a life that long.

Can't remember where I read about the 20,000 hours life. It would of been when I was researching the purchase 3 yrs ago. Probably wasn't a claim by Panasonic - I think I have the original marketing blurb at home somewhere, will try and dig them out tonight.

Anyone else had this problem or know a cause?
