My old JVC deck will no longer play tapes for more than 1 or 2 seconds. It looks like the auto-stop feature has become too sensitive. When I push Play (or FF/RWD for that matter) it stops after a second or two. Any ideas out there? Is this a common problem?

    Thanks

Found it. For those you are dying to know what the problem was, and I know you number in the thousands, the hall effect transistor that picks up a signal from the tape counter wheel was too far from the wheel to measure the field. A little push and all is well.
