I'm have I little problem with my AV setup

I have 2 devices with optical outputs for dolby digital (sky+ and xbox) but only 1 optical input on my AV amp. I purchased an optical splitter to share the input but it doesn't work because the sky+ box always seems to be emitting a signal whether its a dd broarcast or not meaning that the xbox can never input a signal. Even when its in standby it doesn't work, the only way to get them to share the same input on the Amp is to switch the sky+ box off at the mains when I'm using the xbox. This is not only inconvenient but I don't think its recommended !

Has anybody got any ideas - I did also change the optical ouput to normal from dd in the setup but that didn't work either!

    cheers

I posted on the Arcam forum as well (since my amps made by Arcam) and someone suggested a 'switched' splitter -the one I'm using is a cheap unswitched version off ebay. I guess this should work!

    cheers

Spliters are generally designed for spliting the signal - ie taking a signal from one source and sending it to 2 receivers - rather than allowing two sources to go into a single receiver.

Your best option will be to use a switch rather than a splitter and then you should have no problems

I have a manual optical switch box (from Maplins) works perfectly well with Sky+ and the XBox.

You can get the same switch as Maplin's sell here but £12 cheaper.
