I posted in another thread about a high pitch sound coming from my speakers that I first attributed to my DVD player.

After fiddling around with various things I noticed that the sound disappears in source direct mode. Therefore the sound must be being caused by the processing in the receiver.

I'm trying to get through to Home Cinema Heaven where I bought the receiver to see what they have to say. I noticed this on their website:

"You must ALWAYS keep all the packaging for your product for the warranty period, along with your sales receipt. Items without the original packing or sales receipt will not be covered by warranty."

I have thrown away the packaging the receiver came in, but I cannot believe that this is leagal. How can packaging affect my warranty?

So, I have two questions:

1. Does anyone else get a high pitched sound from their Marantz receiver? You have to be quite close to the speakers to hear it.

2. Comments in the packaging/warranty issue?

Thanks

Daneel

I was under the impression that you should keep the packaging for seven days, then after that period you could discard it without it affecting your rights.

I can't see everyone with large RPTV's keeping the packaging these come in, I had a 56 tosh delivered not so long ago, used the packaging as a spare bedroom for a week. :D

May be a phone call to Marantz might clear things up.

I have noticed the same problem as well and again it goes when Source Direct is selected.

I'm going to contact the shop where I bought the amp and also Marantz directly.

Anyway if you do find a solution, please post here!

Using source direct only fixes the problem for analogue sources. When using digital the sound remains. This leads me to think it is the DSP interfering with other components and so is a design fault....

Does anyone have a phone number for Marantz UK? I can't seem to find it on their site. I have a feeling I'm going to be stuck with this probelm unless Marantz has a solution, it will cost me a fortune to send the receiver back to Home Cinema Heaven. :(

jamesh: which receiver do you have?

This is getting stranger. I just went to fill in the registration card for my receiver. I look on the back of the receiver beside the power connector, it says model SR7300/N1B, Serial No and nothing.

It is blank, no serial number at all. I checked on Marantz website before I ordered from Home Cinema Heaven, they are an authorised dealer. Is there any good reason why there wouldn't be a serial number? I am looking in the right place for it?

The phone No for Marantz UK is (01753) 680868. Most Hi-fi and Audio-Visual manufacturers can be found in what Hi-fi sound and Vision magazine.I have spoke to Marantz before and found them very helpful.

My system:

Marantz 4300 DVD, Sony STR-VA333ES 7.1 Reciever, B&W CM2 fronts, B&W CM centre, B&W CDM2 L+R rears, Castle Keep 2 centre rear, Paradigm PS1000 sub, Toshiba 32ZD26P TV.

T1B means UK version, N1B means european version (I think)

hi Daneel
did you find out the problem with your receiver.
thanks gonzo.

I haven't found out anything but I am growing more and more suspicious of Home Cinema Heaven.

It appears, if the information above is correct, that I have been supplied with a European model instead of a UK one. Yet the receiver came with a UK style plug, however I did notice that it was difficult to plug the lead into the receiver, and it does not fit well, it is a little lose.

It could well be the case that this receiver was not intended for the UK and the sound I can hear is a result of the PSU not liking the power it is receiving.

The lack of a serial number concerns me too. I haven't contacted Home Cinema Heaven yet as I have no invoice. I think I may have thrown it out by accident. I emailed them twice and telephoned them requesting a copy invoice. I'm still waiting to receive it.

I checked with trading standards and I don't actually need an invoice/receipt, just proof of purchase. My credit card statement should do just fine.

I intend to call Marantz tomorrow and see what they say. After that I will contact Home Cinema Heaven. I'm keen to hear their explaination for the lack of serial number and also why (if it proves to be the case) I have been supplied with a European rather than a UK receiver.

hi daneel
Thanks for info.Seems like i will be waiting a few more weeks for my amp from unbeatable but seems like it might be worth it.Unbeatable emailed me and said there was an accute shortage of this amp i wonder if thats why you ended up with a european model because there in such short supply but there still should have been a serial number.Let me know how you get on.
good luck gonzo.

greetings from afar
i am looking for some help & am hopeing that i can find it here

I found the serial number, it is on a sticker on the bottom of the unit instead of the back.

I also spoke with Marantz UK. The model is European but it is identical to the UK model except for the plug.

I do find it interesting though that in their price-matching terms and conditions Home Cinema Heaven insist that they will only price-match against UK models, not European imports, while they are supplying imports themsevles.

The gentleman I spoke to at Marantz told me that the packaging issue is due to Marantz sometimes charging to package good for transit. However, he also told me that as long as I package the good myself in a suitable fashion, this should not be a problem.

When I described the problem to him he suggested that the unit had been dropped, probably in transit. I do find it worrying though that desipte the limited number of people I have spoken to about this receiver, I have already found one with exactly the same problem (see post above).

So I now have a quandary. Is it worth the hassle, expense and lack of a receiver for several weeks to get this fixed?

Hi daneel
if i was you i would send it back.£500 is a lot of money you have a right to a new receiver. Wont the dealer you got it from replace it for a new one then let them get a replacement from marantz.Thats the reason we shop at specialist dealers because they are usually very good at after sales service give them a ring and see what they say.
gonzo.

Hi Deneel

Sorry to hear about your problems. Wrt your comments about Home Cinema Heaven when I asked if they would price match with Unbeatable for a 7300 they became extremely snooty and said "we are an authorized dealer, selling only UK product" etc so I am extremely surprised to hear you have been supplied with a European model.

Mate, I would get them (HCH) to give you a new box fresh receiver - it doesn't seem that you were supplied with a product of merchantable quality. Check out the link, it details the sale of goods act.

Hi guys, a bit of info for you.

I have been waiting for my 7300 since september, cant remember the exact date, I think the 2nd, anyway like most they keep saying waiting for stock.

so I have called Marantz uk quite a few times and asked them about the stock, they have told me that only a a small amount came out before chrtsmas, and they have told me that they do supply unbeatable, and that they have had none yet.

Unbeatable have told me that I am at the top of the list, and I was the first to order of them, I anyone can say they have ordered before me can they tell me the date and then I can talk to them... because they may have been fibbing to one of us.

sound and Vision Bolton, did have 2 gold units in, but I want black, they do get some of there stock from Europe so that is why they have them in.

always ask to talk to George at the shop, he will always get you the best deal .

anyway still waiting.

D

Apparantly I'm 3rd on the Unbeatable list - ordered beginning of November.

If you spoke to Marantz UK and they say Unbeatable have had none, when they do eventually get stock it should be the UK model.

Fingers crossed we won't have any probs :(

yes my mrs has spoke to Marantz uk 2 or 3 times, they have said that they will dispatch to dealers end of jan, they have said that they will go out todealers in the order that they ordered......but would not say if this is unbeatable, someone has told me prcdirect may price match, maybe a model from Europe, if they can get one, I will give them ago in the morn

D

Is there a solution for the high pitch sound problem?

Because I can hear it on my new unit. Did you guys exchanged yours?

That's 2 people with exactly the same problem as me. This is getting a little worrying.

I have emailed HCH asking for a refund or new replacement, not had a reply yet.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be a design fault.

I've just returned my amp to the shop and taken home a replacement.

The high-pictched noise is still present.

Are there any other Marantz SR7300 owners who don't have this problem?

I called my audio shop to talk about this concern. The person who sold me the unit was not aware of this problem. I told him to check his demo unit, and guess what... it was there. He also has this model at home, he's gonna check it out tonight.

He told me that it's not uncommon for some receivers (and some higher end models also) to have some background noise that doesn't tint the sound. Since this hiss is not volume related, it's none existent at listening distance.

I really like to sound of this receiver. I don't know if this is worth a return... I guess 7300 owners never had the idea of sticking their ears on the speakers, that why it never came up.

Can lpr and jamesh give Marantz UK a call on the number mentioned earlier in the thread? I talked to a guy called Neil Gill.

It might also be worth doing a post on the Home Theater Forum http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/index.php.

It seems quite a few people have the SR7300 there (mainly US), but this problem hasn't been mentioned.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. Please post if you find out anything.

Hello Daneel,

Calling Marantz UK would be extreme for me since I'm located in Canada, but I've started a thread on the HT Forums. We’ll see how’s the situation in America.

Later.

Just looked a hometheatreforum.com following your suggestion and found this thread

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?threadid=118058

near the top.

Also, I've had another listen for this noise and now can only hear it on the centre speaker. Very strange, as before receiving the replacement, I heard it on all 5 channels (I have no rear surround).

Anyway, I'll give Marantz UK a call on Monday / Tuesday and see what they say.

Incidentally, the guy I spoke to at the hifi shop when I got the replacement said he had never heard of this problem and had sold about 20 SR7300's. Whether or not he was just saying this...
