Problem with Lumagen HDQ and SDI output on Pioneer DV-656A

I just got a Lumagen HDQ, and I seem to have a problem with the SDI input.
There are white "sparkles", or "star field", in the black areas of the film.
My setup consists of:
Pioneer DV-656A DVD player with SDI mod (made by Boostercorp), connected via SDI cable to Lumagen HDQ,
connected via DVI-HDMI adapter and HDMI cable to sony 46W4500 TV.
These sparkles appear on NTSC or PAL material, but not on the black background when the Pioneer logo appears.
What I checked:
- change SDI cable: no effect
- no scaling (output 480p or 576p): no effect
- try the same player connected to HDQ on component (no change on DVI-HDMI output): no sparkles
- try a BD player (sony S550) connected on DVI input (to stay in numeric input): no sparkles
- try the same player and SDI cable connected to another video processor (Crystalio 2300) on SDI input, same DVI adapter and HDMI cable to TV: no sparkles

Also, the sparkles will disappear if I switch SDI equalization on then off, but come back as soon as I change any setting (even just switch memA to memB, with same settings applied to both memory).

Do you have any idea what I could do to get a correct picture?
