Problem with HD4870

Following on from this psu thread and this general thread i am still getting the same error messages when i try and run any graphical benchmark.

I am leaning towards the idea that the card itself is faulty and i need to RMA it. Could anyone please confirm or disprove this idea for me before i waste yet more time not using my computer to its full extent!!!!

Has anyone else had problems with this type of card, or even similar problems to what i have described in the threads linked above? How did you solve the problems in the end?

My son runs a Gigabyte 4870 with this power supply CMPSU-650TXUK - 650W TX Corsair PSU, single 12V rail, energy efficient, quiet & cool, fully compatible, 5yr warranty - Scan.co.uk hope this helps.
We done a maths test before getting it.
Power needed.
Graphics 330watts or there abouts as per Toms hardware
Processor 140watts
The rest 100watts
