I have a problem connecting a new Sony HC30E camcorder via the firewire card on my PC. This card has previously worked fine with a different camera. The system recognises the new camera but when I open editing software the connection is lost and I am presented with an error message to the effect that the device is not connected. In effect the connection appears to drop off then re establish itself. I sometimes get a message about being unable to initialise the device.
The firewire card supports hot-swapping of devices, which I have used but I read somewhere this could cause problems ie break the firewire card.
I have read of similar problems in the forum, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer.
Any ideas would be appreciated - thanks
