Hi, I bought a new laptop, HP15-NO98EA. I explored Windows 8 for a few days then tried burning some photos to a DVD. It wouldn't work. Windows couldn't detect a problem with the DVD so I assumed it must be the software. Cyberlink Media Suite was already on the laptop when I bought it. I got a message saying it was 'incompatible' so I tried to uninstall it.

There were around 8 Cyberlink programmes pre-installed and I went through them one by one. Most uninstalled successfully but 3 would not. I got messages saying they hadn't installed successfully in the first place therefore I couldn't uninstall them.

Cyberlink sent me instructions on how to remove all of it completely, which I did.

My question is: Should I take the laptop back to where I bought it to have the Cyberlink Software re-installed? The problem with that is I was getting lots of invites from Cyberlink to pay more money for a better programme. I have also seen various comments about Cyberlink being 'bloatware' . OR

Should I find alternative DVD software and install it myself? If so, does anyone have experience of a good one?

Thank you in advance, any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you ptk! I'll try them. I like this laptop and it runs quicker since I uninstalled Cyberlink I'm not very techy though, so I really appreciate your help and may come back for more :)

There's nothing wrong with cyberlink products in general, but program trial versions that some laptop builders install can be annoying. If you had any full versions it would have been worth keeping them, but you are better off without the demos.

As to solving the original problem, can you explain the situation a bit more as it's not clear what you were trying to do and why you couldn't. In particular:

1. What are you planning to do with this photo full of DVDs? That is, which devices are you expecting to view them on? Another windows PC? A PC running a different operating system? A different computing device (tablet etc.)? Something more old fashioned (DVD player)?

2. How are you loading these photos onto the DVD? As files? In some sort of controllable slideshow? As a movie with a fixed time between photos?

3. What made you conclude it didn't work? Was it something during the creation? Something when trying to view the photos? Was there any error message? Did something not show up?

Windows is not a specialised photo album DVD checker, so it telling you the disc was fine doesn't mean everything about the disk was fine, only that it contained things in a format windows recognised.

Versions of Windows since XP have come with DVD burning built in, so depending on what you're trying to do you may not need another program.

I have lots of old photos on CDs that I want to keep (family, trip of a lifetime etc) but I want to delete my ex from them lol!

I planned to load the photos from each CD, delete what I don't want, then save them on new blank DVDs, because I already have some. Plus, I can get more photos on a DVD. I want to be able to play them on my laptop or other family laptops. Not everyone has internet connection (e.g. my elderly parents).

I put a CD in the DVD drive, imported the photos, deleted what I didn't want then tried to burn a DVD. It sounded as though it was happening. Then I got an error message saying it was unsuccessful, would I like to try again. They were data files, not slideshows or anything.

I tried with 2 new discs but got the same message. I tried another disc from an unopened packet and got the same message. I also had a message saying that .............was incompatible (can't remember the name of the specific software but it was a Cyberlink one).

I asked Windows to check the DVD drive (not a round DVD disc) but it detected no problems.

I also inserted a pre-recorded film DVD but absolutely nothing happened. (The film works in the DVD player connected to my TV)

Since removing all the Cyberlink software, I have tried burning the photos via Windows media player. I put the files in the 'playlist', inserted a blank DVD, selected 'burn'. Nothing happened except a message telling me to insert a disc. This is what made me think I need some 'burner' software (maybe I'm wrong about this).

Oh and the blank discs I'm using are DVD-R

I have no experience of WMP but for general file burning you just double click on the blank disk and windows sets it up for you:
