I have finally got so far as to be able to display DVD-films played on my laptop on my tv (Lowe Xelos). But the intention when learning how to do this was to be able to view movies rented via the Internet - streaming movies. However, when starting such a movie, the tv-screen becomes black. The movie shows perfectly on the computer screen. And, as already mentioned, the same problem does not appear with a normal dvd-movie in the laptop.

Is this a problem with the driver of the ATI Radeon 9700, or is it a problem with Mediaplayer, or something else - anybody got a clue?

How do you have it connected? Is your tv setup as the primary display?

Does it work when you only have the tv connected?

Otherwise it could be a drm/copyprotection thing.

It won't play on both at the same time, you will have to make the TV primary display when you want to play movies on it.

    You need to do this,

Tv connected to your laptop and both running.

Go into display properties, settings tab and you should see 2 displays.

Your laptop will be display 1 and your TV will be display 2.

Click display 2 and then at the bottom check the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor".

You should now see the icons disappear on your TV with just your wall paper showing.

Start streaming video to your laptop and then drag the player towards the righthand side of your laptop screen until it disappears and you should see it reappearing on your tv screen.

Drag it to the middle of your TV and maximise the window and you should have video playing!
