Problem connecting VCR/Sky/TV

I hope that I am on the correct forum, if not perhaps some kind person would redirect me.

I am trying to connect:
Philips VCR VR 668/05,Panasonic TU-DSB31 and TV SonyKV-32FQ80U

I have tried (I think) all combinations with faults, however this is the recommended set up:

VCR 1 External to TV C socket
2 External to Sky VCR Scart (lower)
Sky TV Scart (upper) to TV A socket

I have tried different scart leads, but the fault remains the same.

The problem is that if I switch off the TV while recording from Sky the signal disappears, however if I am not recording the signal remains on the VCR. If I try different combinations of connections (I think I've tried them all  ) I get different problems, which does not suprise me.

Any suggestions please?

I presume when you are recording off Sky, the VCR is set to record off an AV channel??

If this is the case, this will be the problem (if it's not, then ignore the rest of this post!!).

What you need to do is manually tune another channel on the VCR to pick up the Sky and then it will record fine even with the TV off.

I had this exact problem a few years ago.

Thanks for the reply Greg. It actually sets AV2 when Channel 00 is selected then the down arrow is selected, the manual indicates that this is the correct procedure. However as I said the signal disappears when the TV is switched off.
There seems to be no way to tune the VCR to pick up Sky.
I had another thought, I removed the TV to VCR scart and the signal was there.
I have now plugged the TV back and put the scart into TV socket D, designated Play Station, there the signal remains when the TV is off, however I have not fully tested to see if it schedules recordings ok. It does not when I swop the scart leads across in the VCR.
Any other ideas please?

Do you have the aerial cable going through the setup.

i.e from wall to sky, then VCR, then TV.

You should be able to pick a channel on the VCR and manually tune it to any channel like BBC, ITV etc, if you go through the tuning process on your VCR, Sky should be there somewhere. Just make sure the Sky is on and not in standby before doing this though.

No, I have the terrestrial aerial connected. However after a lot of trial and error I have found that if I connect the VCR into TV scart socket D (designated Play Station) it works ok. So thanks for your help, and as I will never ever (honest) have a play station then I can live with that. I'm still puzzled though.
