... can a 5.1 set up be fed by 7.1 analogue outputs. You see, I only have a 5.1 set up and I am considering Samsung players which are coming out that have 7.1 analogue output. Thanks.

Of course not. Where woudl the 2 remaining channels be fed? You will need to set up your Samsung player to down-mix to 5.1 where relevant.

You can if you buy a stereo amplifier to connect the additional 2 plugs and a pair of speakers. Ofcourse, it would be very tedious to set up and adjusting the volume would be a pain. Better off getting a new 7.1 AV amp for convenience.
