Is it ok to mount a Plasma TV (Samsung PS-42S5HX) above a gas fire?

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Theo has comprehensively answered your question but in short if you have a mantle or something to keep direct heat away from the plasma you shouldn't have a problem. It might be worth checking the temp where the panel would go though just to be sure.

Ah thanks, didn't even think of searching, thought it was an odd question.

I'll investigate the tempeature above the fire and stuff, the mantlepiece is a huge piece of wood, so that will help, but I'll do my research before deciding.
