I am considering upgrading my receiver to get PLII as I tend to mainly watch tv and VHS much more than DVD so is it worthwhile? or can any amps without PLII recreate the same effect?

PL2 is essential. Lots has been written on this before if you do a search. IMO don't buy a receiver without it.

    Hi Jit
You should seriously consider Harman Kardon AVR 3000 or AVR 4000, the price is £320 and £380.00 respectively ( this you can buy from HifiHeaven.com).

They use Logic 7 chip which is used in the Lexicon AMPs(which is very expensive) and it is Good.

The latest version of AVR is AV 3500 or AVR 4500. AVR 3500 retails at £500 and AVR 4500 Retials at £649.00.

the major difference is that the New version has got DPLII BUT

THE POWER SUPPLY (which is the GUT ) is the Same.

    Hope this is useful.

PLII on TV braodcasts is great, much better than good old DPL. HTe extra frequency range of the rears and the stero capabilities of the rears make a bg difference.

If you are buying an amp and you can get DPLII at your price point, do it.
