I'm pretty new to digital photography and am having trouble printing. I am using a Finepix camera - Elements software and an epson 1290 printer. The problem i am having is when I print an image with dark areas they reproduce as areas of red. I can't seem to stop this and have no idea why it may be happening - Can you help.

Does the printer pprint dark ok from other applications?

Does it work ok with images not from your camera?

What testing have you done so far?

Have you checked the ink cartridges using the software?

Ink carts are new. Color documents from office etc print fine. But pictures from the camera are fine except for shadow areas which print in shades of orange and red.

I think I may have stumbled onto a solution. In the printers settings is a tab labelled color management. This has a drop down menu where i can select from a long list of settings including sRGB, adobeRGB, and widegamutRGB. While non of these mean anything to me I changed the setting from widegamutRGB (the default) to adobe RGB - my editing software - and the prints are now excellent.
