Hi all
Have recently brought the above amp and wish to use 4m banana pins in the loudspeaker sockets, but there are rigid plastic pins in the holes where i presume they go.
Do these just pull out with a bit of brute force and ignorance, unscrew, break off? Am i being really thick here?
Anyone know?
Any help apprecaited.
Thanks

Going purely on guess work here, but if it’s like other amps, the plastic inserts can be eased out allowing banana plugs to be inserted. These plastic plugs were put in to satisfy some European safety directive.

:)

Thanks Phil, but it's unsimilar to amps i've had previously. This is far more substantial. Are there any Primare amp owners out there who may be able to help?
Cheers

I've recently bought a Primare I30 and discovered those pesky plugs. I rang the Australian distributor today and was assured they come out. They are not too far away from me so I'm going to take my amp in there so they can do it. These amps are far too expensive here to fool around with and break something. Once they are out I'll add a further reply with the instructions.

BTW just love the amp.

Cheers.
The amp is superb agreed.
Look forward to your response.

Okay, I took my amp down to the distributors today and was shown how to remove those pesky plugs. When they guy did it all I could say is "How stupid am I?" Just wind the threaded plastic covers all the way in so the plastic 'dick' is sticking out, give the offending item a tug straight out with some pliers and they come straight out without a problem. Hardly worth the petrol taking it to the business. Luckily we don't pay what you guys do for fuel.

Also I tried XLR input today compared to RCA's. The XLR's I borrowed were worth about AU$1000 (I guess about 300 pounds) and apart from being down a bit on volume there was definitly no improvement what so ever.

Good luck.
Glen.

Had the same stupid inserts on my A30.5,figured it out after about 1/2
hour.Amazing amp.

Just pull them out.

RE:XLR, oh yeas - It DOES make a difference on this amp.

What is your source? I have XLR between I30 and CD31. I also have RCA of a similar cable for my DVR. World of difference IMO.

Are you sure about that?

I don't want to re-open old pointless cable debates here, but the accepted norm is to replace freebie cables with something at least a little better?...

£20 XLR IC to connect £3000's worth of equipment seems very strange to me. Digital maybe, analogue, no no.

Miceri, I am very sure about that – you should also note that no kit that comes with XLR sockets on them is ever supplied with XLR cables or Freebies – thus your thrust into the arms of aftermarket cable sellers. I use the XLR connections on my Primare from my DVD player (Belden/Neutrik). Have also used XLR equipped DACs in the past too into the Primares B1/B2 inputs (VD 3MIC/Neutrik).

FWIW you can easily knock up your own decent XLR cables for a fraction of dealer bought one – I find them easier to solder than RCA plugs, ie I have made up some 1m XLRs buying Neutrik plugs from these guys :

Then buying Van Damme 3 core Mic cable from these chaps (Belden & Canare are also cheap and perfectly up to the job too).

Cost £15 all incl. FWIW the only place XLR connectors start getting fancy is when they hit the rarified air of audiophiles like us. As you can see here, good quality XLRs (with decent cable & connectors) ready made for £10-20 :

A small thing to remember is that these cables are perfectly fine in between recording studios microphones & recording kit or live event PAs, only when it gets to audiophile kit does it end up being tweaked with fancy cable & connectors and you being fleeced for the honour. Your free to use whatever cables you wish in your hifi system, but more expensive does not mean better IMPE.

PS Brilliant article for anyone wishin to make their own XLRs :
