Pricing Question: Sony KDFE50A12U & KDFE42A12U

It's seems a bit strange that the 42 inch KDFE42A12U works out more expensive than the 50 inch KDFE50A12U if you add the optional stand, which is currenly offered free with the bigger TV. Some sony centres don't even bother stocking the 42 incher bcos it's sort of "priced not to sell". Sony can't be that stupid, could it be that the free stand is a time-limited offer, or is the price of the smaller set artificially high for some reason, or are they trying to clear stocks of the bigger one ASAP? It defies logic, perhaps someone has a conspiracy theory that explains it.

It's perfectly logical if Sony believes that the 50" will be the big seller therefore offering a bigger incentive to buy that model over the 42". The price on the smaller model will eventually fall I would imagine. When Panasonic released the PV500 plasma range the 37" was only around £300 cheaper than the the 42" but it was the 42" that inevitably had all the deals so this sort of pricing strategy isn't unique to Sony.

Some are saying the free stand offer will be withdrawn after Christmas.
