I think I have decided on what kind of AV amp that I would to get(unless any of u can persuade me otherwise).
The only problem is when ever I search for this product , I always get a higher price than has been mentioned in posts at the end of last year, surely they must be a bit cheaper.Either that or I cant use my search engines ? ? ?
So if u can find me a good price and from a reputable dealer, I would much appreciate it.
    Many thanks in advance,

    Andy.

They have been in short supply for ages.

    Try www.avland.co.uk £739.99 free delivery.

You will find lots of info on alternatives if you do a search on here.

I considered HK5550, 1011S and the Denon 3803 in that order of preference. If you don't mind not having auto setup like the 2011 and HK then the 1011 is a good buy at aroung £550 - 570.

If you want more info details of the rest of your system would be useful, maybe somebody on here will have similar and offer advice.

    How about £703.83 from techtronics.
Although I don't think they are in stock at the moment

Have you considered the VSX-1011 instead.

Seeing as the 2011 is as rare as rocking horse poo, what real world benefits would I lose from , getting its younger brother , the 1011 ? Other than the auto setup and the Air Studios tweaks .
    Thanks in advance.

The 1011 is basically the same under the bonnet as the 2011. So once it's set up those of us without golden ears won't hear the difference. Get a SPL meter for £25 & set it up manually & you'll have a great sounding amp. My only reservation against the amp is its size (too big for my rack) - worth checking before you buy.

    Thanks Wilber , I think ?
What I mean is, I dont know what a SPL meter is and how to use it. Is there anything here or elsewhere that would help me in that respect, and how much will it improve my setup , instead of just using my ears ?
Sorry about all the questions, but you have opened up a can of worms with that suggestion.
    Thanks again.

Basically switch the SPL meter on C weighting, at 70 setting in slow response. Point the SPL meter upwards, go through each speaker test tone in sequence and set to all the same, say 75dB.

And if you can't remember what Nathan's just told you when you get your meter, If it's the Radio Shack one that's cheap (google for Cornwall Electronics or Nick Sheppard) & popular, there's a leaflet that tells you how to do it. And if that's too complex then you can get Avia (I think Pierro is still doing his power buy in the Power Buy Forum) - makes setting up an amp a doddle (sort of). Oh and the Pioneer manual explains about setting up your speakers.

How much of a difference it makes is hard to tell - it could be that your system is somehow right anyway or it could be miles out. What I can tell you is that you'll feel smug for having it done properly.

BTW SPL - Sound Pressure Level

Now I have decided on either of these 2 beautiful AV amps, can any of you boy/girl scouts find either of these to buy,but that means they have to be IN STOCK.
I say this because I have tried a million and one places(well nearly) and they all say, "We can get hold of them for you" which in my short experience of searching means they can't , but just want a sale there and then.
Thanks for all you're help , advice and time on this subject , now and in the future.

Just been on the blower to 7oaks in Bristol & asked in passing about the Pioneer amps.

Pioneer have told 7oaks to not take any more orders for 2011 - there are 5 units expected in the next 2 months for the whole of southern England (Andy already has 3 on back order).

1011s are not so rare - Andy has one in stock & felt confident of getting others without too many problems. Pioneer are keen to support dealers like 7oaks so getting stock for them is perhaps easier than the mail order boys

Of course the downside of the popularity of these amps means that there's little chance you'll get much of a discount from a dealer - so £670 is the likely price i'm afraid.

There is a sevenoaks branch in Brighton so you could give them a call.

Sorry guys but I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works now(sorry).
What do u think of the Yamaha DSP-AZ2 against the 2 Pioneers ?The Pioneers have the nice little THX badge on the front and the Yamaha has quite a bit more power to it. It doesn't matter about the Radio , as I am not bothered with it, I listen to enough while I drive all day.
ANY and ALL comments gratefully received, no matter how trivial you think it might be.Thanaks in advance.

As I have said before Yamaha IMO make great movie amps.
I nearly had a "accident" when I listened to star wars 2 on my 630.

AZ2 seems a nice amp for the price, but I have not heard it so I can't comment really.

What I can say is, with the Yamaha A series amps, you seem to get a hell of a lot for the money.

Worth putting on your shortlist I would say. But try and have a listen to the amps if you can.

What about the Harman Kardon AV5550 ? Heard one the other day and sounds pretty good (I've not heard a Pionee tho'). Questionable styling mind you!

I heard the AV5550 next to the Denon 3803 yesterday. Personally I prefered the Harman Kardon - for both Surround and Stereo.

The problem with the Pioneer is actually getting a listen of one, although as other people have said, you may be able to get a listen to a 1011.

In regards to to leconcepts - I rang them on the weekend and was told a new order was about to arrive and there were 2 spare units. So go for your life everybody!

I really want to listen to something first before making the jump.
I am a bit worried that the Pioneer might be a bit "bright" for my taste. I would be interested if anyone had a comment on that.

I am thinking of going down the NAD route. I listend to a T762 and it sounded excellent. I am a bit wary as I am a newbie and there has been no reviews and little talk about it on the forum.

    ag-pusscat,
I seem to be one of the lucky ones, I have heard the HK AV5550 the pioneer 2011 and the denon 3803. Didnt like the denon the 2011 was quite bright for my liking and slightly missing in the mid, bass was very good though. The HK in stereo was much better not as bright more mid and overall better.

Although I would say the HK is maybe a bittoo laid back for movies I like it in stereo. I use valve amps at the moment and the HK is the closest sound I have heard to them.

So whats my final decision well its the 2011 believe it or not. I just could not look at the HK in my living room it is absolutely awful looking.

Dont all kill me at once for these comments.

If anyone is in Edinburgh the shop on Lothian road has a 2011 in for demo at present. Cant quite remember its name at present just knowthe guy is called Mark. Hi Fi Corner inGlasgow are also getting one in in around a week.

    Cheers

    Davy

    Davy,
I assume that with your valve amp you'll mainly be using the Pioneer for HT so I can understand that decision. But your comments make me much more comfortable about crossing the Pioneer off my list. Did you ever listen to the new NADs (T762 et al) at all? Not many people seem to be commenting on them.

If you do a search ... several people have had good things to say about the NAD T752 (and one bad experience that I remember), but I don't remember seeing anyone having the T762.

If you're looking at £1000 or so mark ... worth looking at the Rotel RSX1055 as well - though like the NAD T752 you'll need an extra amp to get 6/7.1 out of it.

    I GOT ONE

At last I managed to get the 2011, I searched all over the south and London, and phoned up this pioneer dealer in London that said they had one on demo.So Iwent up there this morning listened to it, loved it, and brought it home.
So all I have to do now is set it up, which LOOKS really easy(well I hope so anyway).
I must thank everyone here who has helped me, and I'll be back soon to let you know how it is.

Did you actually take the demo receiver from the shelf ?? Or a new one in a box ?

I'll never buy one off the shelf. I always insist on a BRAND NEW BOXED one. But understandably you had a hard time getting hold of one !

I ordered my NEW AX10i - should get it tomorrow or Friday - can't wait !

    Cheers

    PS.... Enjoy !
