like the alphasson stands, but why they so damn expensive? costs over £150 for a decent one could probably get someone to build a good one for half that price  , anyone know any other decent equitment racks with like 4/5 shelfs to stack stuff like dvd player/amp etc. at a reasonable price!

I've got the glass/silver rack from Argos (£70) and despite it's origins is a good rack. It weighs a ton (well 16 kilos!), is very sturdy and you can configure its 4 four shelves from two shelves upwards. So you can have three shelves for a year and when you add new kit just screw the new shelf to the top.

It's made by a company called Rax.

I've got that too. Now surplus since I've gone home cinema and had a custom rack made for me. It's now sitting in the spare room looking all sad and lonely.

I would but I don't think it's worth the postage. It weighs 16kg and would need some good wrapping to make sure the glass is safe! You're probably better off nipping to your local Argos - but don't try to take it home on the train like wot I did!!!!

if you have the box what it came in then that would be alright, then all u need if that weird grey staff what protects glass i think, then arrange parcelforce for a collection which would probably be about £15-18 by parcelforce 48hr, u can get a quote from www.parcelforce.com, but if you wouldnt like to sell it or bother with the hassle then i will not be bothered by it but would be nice as id probably be saving a bit of money , thank again

I have a spare one of these if you're interested?

    http://www.avland.co.uk/vedadebut/z030/z030.htm

Its in silver with blue glass - I can send you some photos of the actual unit if you like. I'm looking for £100.

I see you're in London - I'm in Reading which is only 20 mins outside the M25, so I'm sure we could sort out a meet up somewhere.

Let me know if you're interested - if you are, I'll post an ad in the classified section.

    Regards
    Chris

Got the rax yesterday, not exactly precision engineering but pretty solid and at £50 a bargain.

Got one myself today. As you say not the best finished thing in the world, but looks very smart and is indeed a bargain. Thanks to whoever spotted that! Saved me at least £100+.

    Cheers!!!:smashin:

Down to £50, that's a bargain I was thinking of one of these myself. Braehead, if you were looking to sell next day delivery up to 25kg is £8.99 with DHL parcel2go, look here www.parcel2go.com

Just looked on argos website and when you bring up the RAX RAC TC8 for £49.99 (cat no. 534/2440) there is a link inbottom corner for another 4 shelf rack but for £39.99. This looks identical and supposedly used to be £69.99, cat no. 516/0110. Surely it's not the same? Anyone know? Looks OK for £39.99 mind!!

Just realised I have a cheap stand that I bought from argos but it's not fit for purpose, internally it's not wide or deep enough for my receiver so I could exchange that against the Rax one and save even more cash!!
Was this offer on in-store or just over the net?

I paid £49.99 in store. I couldn't find it for £39.99 but as I said it's still good value when you consider what you can spend out there and it looks good too.

Well, I just went and bought one of the Rax stands from Argos for £37 (exchanged a cheap £13 rack against it!!). It seems that Rax must be part of Acoustic Solutions, judging by the box & warranty card.
I agree that fit & finish isn't perfect, but once put together I was impressed. Very well packaged, seems quite sturdy once put together, and looks pretty good!! It definately makes it hard to justify paying £200 for a "designer" AV stand, even if you would get minscule sound improvements.

I have one of these £49.99 jobs. Excellent value for money and I'd happily recommend it.

Buy two of the Argos ones and use an extra shelf from the second one to add to the first one.

Ahh - good idea! Although that comes to £100 anyway so I might as well pay the extra £20 on top & get the Gale one which is much nicer.

Shame there are no 5 shelf units for about £80. I originally got my current 5 shelf stand from Index, very cheap, about £30 - looks the same as that argos one but looks very cheap as well!
