Press job at Silverstone today.

Had a great day at Silverstone today, shooting press for the Brit Car 24 hour race which is impending.

My mandate was people, pits, ambience - pretty much what I do. Long but fab day with dinner, interviews and the most surreal ride around Silverstone in the boot of a Rover at 60mph with me taking shots of the grid as they passed. Tricky day to meter as very over cast and little sun which netted dull skies and cloud....

Good day out and did some networking and shot specifically for a couple of teams which may secure me more work. Met that Shane lad who was in Boyzone and discussed how bad celebrity love island is - not that I watch it. Last picture is me in the pit lane. Thanks for looking.

Some PP mate though only on the cars and traffic lights. Press want vanilla stuff but I do PP for myself for my stock stuff.

24 - 70 2.8 L thingy. Cracking lens at a cracking (not) price :D :suicide:

I need the 70 - 200mm 2.8 to compliment my 100 - 400 and that now :(

Great again Pete!

Who's the scary bloke second from last? Looks more like a Rugby Player or Boxer, better not have a crash with him!!!

I love the vivid colours (second time I've used the word Vivid tonight), the pictures seem to reflect the high tech world of motorsport, clean and sleek!

That 'scary' bloke used to sing along with Ronan and the gang...that's Shane from Boyzone.

EDIT - great snaps and superbly crisp images too. I especially like the first few which really give you a feel of the pits (when the race isn't on, that is).

If you buy the 70-200 f2.8 IS L + 1.4x (makes a suped kit) you will not use the 100-400 again, I didnt.

Nice pic's.

Thanks, I always try and convey the brief with my images though these cars are pretty torn up, it seems its whats underneath thats important.

The guy you ask about is Shane Lynch - ex Boyzone singer/dude who now races cars and flies helicopters. Nice kid had a laugh with him. I said 'So you can race cars, fly choppers, you have been on celebrity love island - and apparently you can sing' though I winked as I said it - he got the joke and said 'not really, but keep it to yourself!' :D For the record, he is minted.

Nice idea. I may look to sell the 100 - 400 on and get the 2.8 as a good as the 100 - 400 is, its simply not fast enough for me now. I was working at the rugby last night and it was a nightmare - needed 2.8 big time. What do you loose stop wise with the TC?

I think its 1 stop with the 1.4x and 2 stops with the 2.0x

And there's me thinking it's Desperate Dan!!! It would be nice to have his money to indulge in some cool suff! I'd love to fly and race(!! crash!!!) bikes myself!

Echo what other people say Pete, a cracking set of pictures, not a duff one amongst them at all.

I'm liking your composition too :smashin:

Thanks Steve. Funny thing is that I find the more work I get, my keep ratio is going up and up which is both good and bad. Have learnt that ideally most people only want a few shots but have to cover everything. Nice for my archive and memories too. Next big job is a Polo event at Prince Charles club which should be interesting. Again, been assigned people and ambience and working with an Aussie snapper who is covering the 'action' with a 600mm prime 2.8 lens.

Happy days. :smashin:

Thanks all. Managed to salvage these from the bin today. In fact the landscape shot with the flare bouncing of the car has become my favourite. Its a funny old game.

Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been going racing for more than 20 years off and on, never had a chance to take pictures like these, was going to say you lucky guy but you have worked at it and are now getting the rewards, well done.

Like everyone else said, colours, composition and sharpness are superb, possibly going to Brands next saturday for F3 annd British GT practice. Will have to try very hard.

Do you use a skylight filter ? I now have one but am not sure if it is making my pictures better or worse !
