Hi all. I'm thinking of upgrading my monitor. I obvioulsy want to future proof with 4K but i really like the look of the curved screen. Looking at the resolutions the X34 3440x1440 isn't 4k. Can't find any curved screen that is or am I missing something? It will be used for gaming and watching movies. What would you go for? Cheers.

Ultra-wide monitors can't be 4k by default, as the monitor shape is different to 16:9, which is what 4k is based on.

An ultra-wide 4k is heading upwards of 5k (can't remember the numbers but a google search should tell you).

Importantly....a 34" 3440 x 1440 ultra wide monitor has the same pixel pitch as a 40" 4k monitor, and is easier to drive than a 4k panel for games. To me it's a no brainer; I changed from a lovely 4k 40" VA panel to the X34 and other than black levels, I don't miss the 4k monitor at all.

I have the same lovely PPI, g-sync and 100hz gaming. Awesome.

Oh and I've just noticed the price has dropped...£849 on amazon for the X34 now.

Thanks for the reply Smurfin. So you'd definitely recommend the X34 then? Had no issues with tearing or artifacts? I've seen some reviews with people claiming issues with it. Really like the look of it but it's a lot of money to spend if I'm going to have problems.

You have problems with every monitor, is the sad truth. I noticed a tiny bit of tearing on Metro 2033 last night, but it was very occasional...so much better than vsync and generally butter smooth. Also noticed some scan lines on Squad the other night, but it's the best monitor gaming experience I've ever had. I'm not the only one on here with an X34, @Razor has one too so get his opinion :)

I recently got the X34 a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. it does have a few minor issues with IPS glow but apart from that I love it. It does take a lot of power to drive 3440x1440 at 100fps so be prepared to lower your settings.

I have also found that it's great for multi tasking. At the weekend I had the new Need For Speed windowed in 16:9 and then I had the football on next to it.

Scan lines will be an indication that your frame rate is going way too low for the gsync module to handle. You were probably under 30fps at the time. Might also be why your seeing a bit of tearing as that shouldn't happen if your in the gsync range.

As for the X34 is a great display and one which keeps on making me smile. :smashin:

I was at 50fps - it's the only game I've seen this on...might be something to do with the game itself. Couldn't see any scan lines on the pendulum demo .

@Razor do you get 100hz out of your panel?

Yes but don't expect high frame rates. If you're not an avid gamer look for something cheaper. Higher refresh rates and G-sync are a nice to have but IMHO it's not worth the extra £200 - £300 it will cost you, on what is already a very expensive piece of kit.

Fair enough. Just make sure you check that the new 1080 is better than a GTX 980Ti. As a new card, it will command a premium price. So it may well be worth waiting a few weeks to see how the 980Ti prices go (they should drop). If the new 1080 is around the same performance as a 980Ti (which is likely) then it might be more prudent to go with the older tech at an lower price.

Thanks for the reply m8 i have a i7 2600k is it worth it to drop a gtx980ti to get 60fps at 1440p or just wait on pascal and rebuild my whole rig?

It really depends on whether you feel the need (and have the funds) to upgrade your CPU and mobo or not. I upgraded my rig last year to Haswell-E (see signature below) from a i7 2600K CPU. It was still performing very well and would have lasted me another 2 or 3 years easily. The 980Ti is a fantastic GPU and you will notice a difference.

If you can, wait a few months and see how things develop.

I've had this monitor a couple of days now it's fantastic playing games in ultra wide screen it just feels so right.
My gtx780 is struggling with the resolution though so mainly playing at 1080.
I think I'll buy a gigabyte gtx 980 ti and wait to build a new rig.
Would this card run 3440x1440 on high settings and get 60fps that would do me just now?

    In a word yes.

I'm surprised your GTX780 is struggling mine coped reasonable well. I had to dial back a few settings depending on the game though. Could you OC you 780? It might give you that little bit extra that makes games more playable. Also my monitor has a max refresh rate of 60Hz.

wow that is a lot cheaper. when the new cards come I was going to move to nvidia from amd and buy the gsync x34.

however this has tempted me to stick with amd and grab one now to plug into my 290x. gives me more cash to spend later on amd's flagship whatever that might be.

anyone know how a 290x copes?

Parcel force have said tomorrow pre noon now but Ebuyer are saying Monday more likely? it may go back if it has bad QC from what I've been reading.

Oh and originally Ebuyer refunded me only £2.00 because they missed the "pre noon" slot. but after explaining to them even if it turns up tomorrow that isn't next day so, full refund please which they agreed.

Box is huge isn't it? Just been playing a bit of Metro 2033 Redux and this monitor gives such an amazing gaming experience, despite the usual IPS issues.

i am running on a 290x so not as beefy as I'd like. Ran the benchmark for Metro and got 40fps with most things up high and it seems pretty capable. Might turn off anti-aliasing for now - seems like I can sacrifice that for higher frames. what are you running on? what kind of fps do you get?

will upgrade when the new cards are out for sure.

The box was epic. My father-in-law couldn't stop laughing when he saw it.
