Pre-amp for passive Toshiba sub?

I've recently bought a Denon X2700H AVR to power my 5.1 setup but I have yet to upgrade my sub (I'm saving for a Monitor Bronze W10 to match my other speakers) but currently I have only a passive Toshiba sub from my old setup. I've temporarily configured it as a rear surround speaker as a short-term measure.
My question is: can I buy a (cheap) pre-amp to enable me to use the Toshiba sub until after Christmas, at which point I'll be buying the Monitor (if so, what make/model would you recommend?); or is it better to live without a sub completely until I get the replacement?
Thanks,

You'll need a power amplifier. Considering the cost (£100+) it's not worth it.
