I've just purchased a Yamaha RX-V630RDS amp, which has a AC outlet on the back for powering other equipment from. According to the manual the outlets power o/p is 100W.

I've also just purchased the Mission fs2 AV speaker package, and the active sub needs a power supply. The speaker manual says it requires 150W PPMS, but only 50W RMS, and is currently set up to run at 220-240V. (it can also be set to run at US voltages ).

OK, so first a silly question: Can I assume the amps outlet runs at 240V ( its a UK model )? You'd think so as otherwise it couldn't power any other UK AV gear!

Now, more importantly: Will the outlet provide sufficient power to the amp? If it can, then I can free up a plug socket!

Final point, I'm running my AV gear on a six-way extension lead, far from ideal I know. Obviously the amp will be the biggest power draw, but will it be safe to run other stuff from the lead? i.e. plasma screen & DVD player, or could it all go bang? ( I'd appreciate answers before I start plugging it all in! )

    Cheers, Steve.

A Surge protected 6 way gang should be fine to power the set up. As for connecting the sub power to the outlet, I wouldn't bother with it.

I forgot to mention it will be fine, unless you are putting a very heavy load on it, but I doubt you will with DVD AMP etc.

if your worried you could always mod your extension lead with some 20amp cable and a plug with all brass connectors(like they use on big mig welders)

Thanks people, I thought I should be OK, but better to check first. As for powering the sub via the amp, it's purely to save on sockets. At current count I've got 17 ( two six-way gangs, one four-way, and one plain) , and every one is going to be used!

    Cheers, Steve.
