Maybe I'm being thick, but how do I power off the TV - LE40R74BDX - and not in stand by mode?

I press the power button on the remote control, the TV goes into stand by. But when I press the power button on the TV, it just switches on and not powering off.

How do I power off the TV apart from switching off at the mains (which I want to avoid as it's hidden away) or am I stuck with the stand by?

You are probably used to hearing your old CRT tube TV power off and the red light go off. Well LCDs don't have a tube, so when you turn it to standby, this IS the off mode. The red light is to show its plugged in.

Unplugging at the wall can erase settings after a while.

    Thanks for the reply.

But with the standard CRT, I press the power button, the power is totally off and no stand by which means it doesnt use any electricity at all.

With this TV, the red light is on, which means it's in standby mode and is using up electricity, right?
