I am confused, am I reading too much int Power Outputs?

My current receiver's rated output at stereo mode is
    8ohms - 1khz - Thd 0.3%

However the Pioneer 812 - great reviews etc etc has an output of
    8 ohms - 1khz - thd 1%

My current receiver isn't the greatest by any accounts - so whats going on? My limited understanding was that the lower the distortation the better?

    Yep..good point!

My amp produces those figures at 80W.

    The Pioneer at 100W.

    Any thoughts?
