    Hi folks,

What is the general concensus on turning a Plasma TV off? Do you use the power off switch or just the standby option on the remote?

I know that if you always use the power off switch, the switch itself can get a bit "touchy" and eventually pack up. However, are there any side effects from using standby all the time? Can that cause any problems in the long run?

I currently only use standby and never touch the power off switch but I was curious what you guys thought.

    Cheers.

My Hitachi automatically goes into standy 20 seconds after I switch off the Sky+ box. I don't do anything else.

Accumulative switching on/off will eventually limit the transformer's life, that's a fact.

But nowadays it is safe enough to leave in stand-by mode.

Stand by still supplies the tranformer at 230/250 but the motherboard is put in a "nominal voltage" state so that the processing chips can cool down.

Personally always leave on standby. Maybe turn it off if I am going on holiday or something but other than that has been on standby for many many years without any problems.
