Ignoring the [-]subwoofer[/-] PA amps for the moment, you could pick up a far better and more powerful 5/6/7 channel amp than the NAD from the classifieds. There's a Cinepro 3k6 in there at the moment.....

The question that begs asking is, why do you need more? I'm using the 2k6 @ 6x330w and it doesn't even get that warm when abused for hours on end.

To be honest, the PA amps are great for subwoofers ( I use a Behringer EP-4000 on my twin subs) where outright grunt is valued over subtlety, but they're a bit coarse and strident sounding to be called hi-fi.

The other issue worthy of note is that PA amps are designed to be screwed to the end stops into 2-4 Ohm loads all night long, so they make use of forced air cooling provided by fans which are noisy. So noisy, that I drilled a hole through a wall so I could run mine in another room. Lord knows how loud a stack of three would sound.

There are the AB Systems amps which are similar to the Cinepro that i'm flogging but these don't come cheap when you add import tax, VAT and delivery to the equasion (around £3.5K all in at the moment ;))

I used to run a pair of Parasounds which are also well known for their grunt but the Cinepro walks all over them as you'll see from my old posts if you care to have a dig about.

There are also the likes of the big Brystons, Krell and ADA ect but you are looking again at spending thousands.
