    Hi guys,

i need help on selecting a budjet Power Amplifier, it needs to be able to powers 12 speakers mainly for a PA system at a community centre.

Im gonna use some surrounds for the speakers, is that a good idea ?

another question may sound silly, if i was going to connect 10 speakers in series, each of which are rated at 40W (does this mean 40W at full capacity ?), does the total power output of the amplifier have to be 400W ? If i got an amp with a lower power rating , could i blow the amp ? I wont be playing music over the system and its not gonna be on very load so i was wondering if a lower output amp would be ok.

Placing 12 speakers on a channel of an amp (in series) will result in no spl's of ANY significance, by the time you reach audible levels the amp will be into clip territory.
Another option (and probably more suitable) would be a 100v line amplifier set-up (if this is for an intercom type scenario), however you may struggle to do this in your budget.
If you require P.A spl's for music then it's P.A type kit for you, which is not going to happen for 200.00.

    Steve.
