Since buying my Panasonix PD-50, I've been looking at various Home Cinema boxes with varying degrees of enthusiasm.

Problem is I think the sound quality of the Panny is great - just want the surround sound. So... question is - is there any way I can use the TVs sound for the front and just use additional rear speakers?

    TIA,
    Carl

It depends on the speakers your panny comes with.. and their connectors.

Basically if you want dolby digital (DD) or DTS surround sound, you'll have to plug the panny speakers into a DVD player (or a AV Reciever/Amp) that supports 5.1 channel sound

basically it can be done as long as the speakers are detachable and have connectors that could go into an amp/dvd rather than the screen,

    hope that helps

    Spinout,

There is really no point in messing about with rear speakers and so on if you dont have an amplifier to run them. Do the right thing and get a Home Cinema in a box for anything from £75 upwards. However, once you have one, some (very few) TV's have the option to run the TV's internal speakers as centre speakers.

Check out various reviews and get your wallet out!

PS. Adil, You cannot plug speakers into DVD players on their own. You need an Amp.
