There is a possible scam website that offers £1.50 discount (but looks like an XML htpp get and post coded site to suck content from cd-wow).

I have emailed CD-WOW to confirm if the site is genuine:

why would you do that? you're just going to get the £1.50 link cancelled now. it was already noted in another thread that you can go to cd-wow using that link and then right click on something and do "open in new window" and you'd be at the official cd-wow link with the discount.

Because I haven't seen that thread; because it looked like a scam; all other discount cd-wow pages e.g. Nokia Club show the title but still have the cd-wow url. I won't provide any cc details on acredit card page NOT showing HTTPS:// - maybe you're happy to do this?

Why would it be cancelled? If cd-wow made that discount why would they now cancel it?

The link is perfectly genuine, and I explained how it works in another thread (it merely places the CD-WOW page inside a frame -- that's why you see the same link on every page). If you just bothered to open a product page in a new window you'd have seen that the discount was still there, but you see the site as normal.

But now that's the best discount link available down the drain now when CD-WOW cancel it. Thanks, idiot.

Fool. If you'd actually bothered to check these things rather than going off half-cocked you wouldn't have made an ass of yourself. The checkout page IS a secure page. The reason a padlock doesn't show up is because it's inside the frame generated by that other site -- and if you'd used the method pointed out to you, you wouldn't have even had to put up with that.

Jesus... people on the internet. :suicide:

mhuk05, FYI here's the thread i was referring to: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201734

scroll to the end and you'll see this mentioned and seen that it's already been brought up, discussed and resolved.

Fair enough, you didn't read the thread, but perhaps next time you could post here before contacting cd-wow because in all likelihood they will stop that discount link from working as they do with all of them when they become public knowledge, you've gotta be a bit quieter to get a bargain..

My intention was not to spoil it. It looks like a dodgy site to me- frames, hiding SSL certs, no cd-wow URL (it's easy to set up a fake site that uses XML methods to suck content from another site- as mentioned "people on the internet".) etc.

I take your point on board and won't do it again.

@ PJTX100: yes you can use further vouchers.

    Jesus...give him a break!
He was trying to warn people of a possible scam, with the best intentions etc.
Ok, he "may" have stopped the link/discount, but he is far from needing to be called an "idiot".

I'm sure these forums used to be friendlier 4/5 years a go... :suicide:

The guy was trying to warn people of a possible scam and all you can do is insult him :nono: This sort of behaviour is not becoming of these forums.

It's ALL cd-wow urls. Just not on the meaningless part in the location bar. In the future look at the link urls. XML can't do ****.

I agree, some of you may feel that he doesn't know anough but after all does everyone know as much about the internet as some of us here on this forum.

For example the general public are simply taught that if there is no closed padlock on the bottom of their browser, the site is not secure when it comes to ordering so they should beware. Most people do not know about frames, or the technicalities of HTML, etc.

 Having just been scammed myself (or so it seems, only time will tell) by lookingfordvds.com I would welcome more people like mhuk05 posting their fears here so we can all take care.

    The link does'nt work now.

I'm all for alerting the public on possible internet scams but it was jumping the gun a bit by going straight to CD-WOW.

It all got a bit handbaggy for a while there! Let's not forget that the likes of Tesco or trespassing on CD-WOW's Jersey scheme and the more we abuse CD-WOWs offers & vouchers by stacking them up the less likely they are to stay in business.

I think for the sake of 75p here & there I would like to continue to do business with CD-WOW and maintain a relation ship that delivers on price and service

Agree with the Doc, whilst I'm all for getting titles as cheaply as possible, unlike a couple of rogue etailers I've been stung with, Splash, being one of the culprits, I like the service the likes of Play and CDWOW offer.

Even without these discount links, the're a damn site :) cheaper than the high street, in most cases. :)

got to agree - some people are throwing the rattle out of the pram over a small saving :(

for gods sake its not a life or death issue and the original poster was trying to help!

we all like a bargain but most of these sites offer considerable savings over the high street anyway - if £1.50 or whatever makes all the difference then i suggest you cannot realy afford the disc to start with

While we are on the subject of secure connections, maybe some of you can help me out. I was trying to buy Hellboy DC DTS edition from a Finnish website (Filmfrikki)and everything was going fine until I went to submit the payment. At this point Firfox threw up a warning saying that I was about send information over a non-secure connection. The page I was on (where I had filled in my CC details etc.) was a secure one, at least it had the padlock symbol. Does anyone know if this is safe. I will email them to be sure, but just wondering if this is normal.
