I have a room that is about 3.5m squared.

My plasma is gonna be on top of fireplace - so relatively high.

What is the best position for the front L and R speakers.

    a) in terms of height.

ie top end of plasma? - middle of plasma? - bottom of plasma? - or lower than the plasma? [assume speakers are 10cm wide and 15cm long.[

    b) in terms of sideways distance away from the plasma - 1 feet? 2 feet.. 5 feet?

It's said that the tweeters should be at ear height for the fronts.
And that you should look to make an equilateral triangle from the speakers to your main listening position.
I've also heard 12ft min between speakers, is best.

    cheers,

even though ear height could be as much as 1 foot below the panel??

12 feet gap.... ie between the front Left and Right?

equilateral triangle - so assuming i am 3m away from the plasma - the Front L and R should be approx 3m apart ie 1.5m each away from the plasma????

    Thanks,

By tweeter- i assume you mean the Front Left and Right...

Does the same apply to the centre... Because the ideal place is obviously above the fireplace.... which is higher than ear level.

Also what about the rear speakers???

By tweeter, I mean the little titchy speaker, usually about an inch or so diameter. As I said it's not that critical.
The same (ear height) applies to the centre, in an ideal world, but practicality/aesthetics mean it's often not possible and as you're saying, compromises have to be reached. Perhaps you could slope your centre down slightly, so it's pointing at your head???
Ideally, the same applies with the rears, but this is much less critical, as the rears only do a fairly small percentage of a soundtrack.
For music, the ideal is all the same height. Except subs which can sort of go anywhere.
To be honest, I wouldn't worry so much about speaker height, the width is more important, I'd say.

:) I thought that might throw you.
I believe you've just bought MS 903's, looking at another thread you posted in.
If so, take a look at your speakers.
You have 2 * 4" woofers and 2 * 1" tweeters, the little black ones, in each speaker set.
If that doesn't make sense, what speakers have you got ?

They're nice as rears, I have some.
When you look, pull the covers off.
Better still, have a look at this:

    http://shopping.lycos.co.uk/10896en712.html

and you'll see exactly what I mean.

So, in this case, you want the middle of the speaker at ear height. Ideally

PS, Don't pay that price ;)
