    Hi all.

got my pw6 with component board, xbox modded with HD kit and enigmah videoselect. I go into ms dash, switch on 480, reboot back to my O/S menu, and everything has a shadow and quality seems alot worse although maybe slighty sharper, same problem within games.

    any ideas anyone please?
    thank you

    Jack

    I don't think it's a faulty cable. It's a brand new one from whitedog.co.uk.
When I use the xbox in PAL mode, the picture is fine, so it can't be the cable.

There is a switch on the HD pack, when I switch it, the picture turns grey, I'm assuming the is the switch to turn on the s-video connection?

true, but if the cable is working when the hdtv option in the ms menu is turned off, then it cannot be the cable.
The different signals are still travelling down the same cables

Except that the Hi-Def signal will require higher bandwidth, and therefore is less tolerant of crappy cables. It could be that the shadow you're seeing is 'ringing' due to a poor quality cable. What color is the 'shadow' you're seeing ?

    it's a light whitish shadow.
Can I keep the xbox HD box and just repace the cables?

Can I use standard good quality phono cables?

Sounds like ringing to me. Here's a picture. You can just replace the cables, but you'll need good quality video cables (rated at 75 ohm), audio cables aren't suitable.

    Cheers, Carl.

Hi all,in the same boat really, just got my panny ,couldnt wait to try xbox hd component, got a madcow box off fleabay for a tenner, and i found the same thing, the text on screen has a ghosting around it,and games dont seeem that much better,Soul Caliber 2 @720p is ok but plagued by this ghosting in all the menus.I bought a vivanco component lead again not the greatest, but for xbox i thought would be fine but not so.

I have just ordered an official hd kit from lik sang, and im going to borrow a good quality cable to see if there is any improvment.

If you need a good cable, don't forget Mark Grants offerings in the powerbuy forums. You wont get better for anywhere near the money :)
