Hi I just upgraded my crappy old Goodmans pro logic system with a slightly less crappy Yamaha NSP-110 speaker set (well, it was only £36 on Ebay!), and have paired it with a decent Denon 1906 receiver I had spare. I've also just upgraded my freeview box from a Sagem ITD 64 to an Inverto IDL-7000 PVR which is connected to the Denon via optical.

Okay, now to cut to the chase... While the sound is infinitely better than it was with the Goodmans it is distinctly lacking in bass even though I have the Denon sending all bass to the sub. The sub fires up nice for DVD playback but not freeview TV. Is this issue because freeview doesn't transmit a bass .1 signal or have is my set it all wrong somewhere? I'm using Dolby Pro Logic IIx setting on the Denon.

    Thanks

    Jules

At present Freeview does not broadcast digital multi-channel surround sound.
Most boxes will just output left & right stereo.

Surely it should work in Dolby ProLogic mode on films and the like - which have had the required embedded info for a decade.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. I've just checked out the Inverto forum and it seems this is a bug in the coax/optical output of the Inverto PVR that has never been fixed (even after 2 years!). Some people can't even get their receivers to recognise a digital signal, others who do find that the frequency range is emasculated. I've switched to analogue and just like magic the sub starts singing.
