I have recently copied over some audio books to my 30 GB Creative Zen Jukebox. As these are only speech they have been encoded at a very low bit rate IE 32 kbps. I did not produce these myself.

These play fine my laptop and seem to be okay streaming to my Netgear MP101 digital music player. But when listened to on the Zen Jukebox, the play at what appears to be half speed. It sounds like a 45 RPM single playing at 33 1/3.

Has anyone else experience this? Is it the firmware on the player? Would an upgrade help at all?

It could well be that the minimum bitrate supported by the player is 64K. I would ask on the nomadness forums if you want to talk to more owners of the player.

I will indeed. It's just that I've got a load of other audio books at the bit rate and they play fine.

I've just converted them to wma format to see if that makes any difference.

I tried using Audacity to increase the bit rate to 66Kbps but the results were the same.

Eventually I wne to the Creative Labs web site and download the latest firmware along with all the latest software. The firmware upgrade didn't like the MP3's still so I used the MediaSource coverter to change the file formates to 64Kb WMA files. They play fine now.

It would appear that this audio book was created and encoded using a different codec that may not be properly supported by the Zen Jukebox.
