polaroid vs novatech

I would't buy either. They are budget TV's and have a budget performance/build quality.

I take it you have a budget of arround £500.

I would suggest saving a bit more and buying the Toshiba 32wlt66 - you can see the prices you can buy for on the relevant threads. Currently a £1100 TV for arround £570.

My advise is as above but just to add any mainstream manufacturer.

To answer your original question, I would go for the Novatech, it has excellent independant reports from buyers, and Novatech is an excellent company, unless of course you want to join the " badge snob brigade ".

Remember, many of the big brands have many problems, at least at Novatech, should a problem arise, you will be dealt with fairly and promptly.

( And no, I have no connection with Novatech, other than as a long term satisfied customer ).

Well I bought the Polaroid and I am very pleased with it. The picture quality is great in Standard Definition (all I have). Also, connectivity is very good (2 HDMI, 2 SCART with RGB...). Sound is poor though.

Novatech is a retailer not a manufacturer. They will have sourced their set via a trade show from a Chinese or similer OEM and slapped their badge on it.

This means a number of things, the set will have little resale value as it has no branding. It will be hard to repair after the warranty expires. The build and component quality will not match the Brand leaders. It will not incorporate the best processing technology as most of this is propriatory. Therefore when asked to do scaling it will have a poor performance.

You get what you pay for and Brand leaders have earned their position through R&D and Customer service.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

Would that be like the Sony " Hot " Batteries, or their recent batch of cameras that have been recalled?.

Who makes what these days anyway?

As just one example Sony DVD Rewriters are actually made by Liteon.

And it isn't just Sony.

I personally would trust a Novatech own label TV above a branded one from the likes of Currys etc. for long term support.

Seriously? I bought one of these and returned it because the (SD, Sky over full scart) picture quality was so bad it gave me a headache. And yes, I played with the settings no end, even tried upconverting s-video to component via my AV amp.

I would not recommend this TV to anyone.
