Most of the online poker sites have options to "play for fun" but TBH its not quite the same unless theres some money at stake,as people are more likely to just call every hand regardless of cards and bets and hope they hit a hand on the river  .

Sites I have played which are ok are :
    http://www.pacificpoker.com/
    http://www.william-hill-poker.com/
    http://www.pokerstars.com/
    http://www.pokerroom.com/home/
    http://www.ladbrokespoker.com/

....but theres only 1 site I play at now:
    http://www.truepoker.com/

I HIGHLY reccomend Truepoker, trust me,once you try this site the other sites will seem so outdated its funny. It also has servers with "play for fun"games which you can try before depositing a few quid.Try the Texas hold em no limit tournys,I bet you will love it(as you may have guessed,I like a gamble :p )

    Good luck :smoke:

I hardly ever follow up adverts in magazines or papers but there was an Ad for PokerRoom.com in my copy of Evo this month and I thought I'd have a look. Since being taught how to play I've always really loved the poker nights we've had at our house.

And now.. I'm HOOKED!! After signing up at about 10pm last night I was up playing till 1:30am! I'm only playing with "Play money" but I've already turned the $1,000 they gave me to start with into nearly $5,000 !!

It's great fun, but dangerous, you cant help but think "oooh what if I could do that with real money.."

Give it a go if you've got a couple of hours to spare :smashin:

    Kev (playing texas hold-em as Kevlar80 ;) )

Is Pokerroom.com the favourite then, or does anyone else have any recommendations? Although I don't suppose it makes much difference, just need to agree on a central place.

I have tended to use Yahoo, but soon get bored with people on there so I am not going to recommend them.

Yeah I'm def up for that.. Awesome idea.

I'm sure you can set up your own personal rooms, I've seen some on Pokerroom.com but I'm quite new to it still so I'd have to look at how you go about setting one up and inviting particular people.

Nice one!! I just need to make my games room all nice & smokey and to get a bottle of Jack in and i'm away!!

We need to know which ones allow us to have a room to ourselves (sadly i'm not up on the world on online poker) and then get enough of us to fill a room. Should be class!

I thought i would sign up to pokerroom just to try it out in preparation...blimely lots to go through.

All of these poker rooms require software download, do they install any nasties out of interest...kinda paranoid about these things!

Most poker software require downloaded software, it's unavoidable I'm afriad. Stick with the tried and tested names and you'll be fine.

I've played on a few and like like VCpoker.com for graphics and the games seem to finish quicker, not sure if it's the players of the software that slow down some of the other games. Another that is does that a few don't this tell you what you card that your threw away are. You can decide if that's good or not, but I do forget and when the flop appears I like to know how I would of done if I stayed in.

Also if you got a decent mobile phone. Got to Pokerroom.com look under the poker tab or mobile tab and you can download the programme on your phone. You can play online if you want, but what's great is you can play just on your phone against computer players and if free.

    Interesting thread...
I started playing myself at the weekend,
Settled on Ladbrokes as the nicest software, but will check out some of the other recommendations on here.... it is kind of addictive... My $100 stake has wittled down to $15 in just four days. Shame I didn't discover the 'play money' option earlier :suicide:

Anyone wonder if everyone else in the room is part of a gang and communicating with each other via phone? I am up for an avforums game of texas hold 'em though, how do we arrange that?

I sometimes play on William Hill's site. They say that they have software for analysing play patterns to spot this, so hopefully it works.

I'd be up for a avforums poker night :smashin:

I currently use the VC Poker program but would happily sign up with another for forum nights. VC Poker is pretty good but you cant create your own rooms so I guess that's out. Pokerroom, Truepoker etc. which is it to be... maybe we should make a poll and vote on it :D

    Regards,
    Iain.

I've been watching tables at PartyPoker.com but not plucked up courage to play yet. I know there are 'play tables' but the action seems really fast (and I've never played hold'em before). Anyone know a good place to start (eg beginners tables, computer opponents etc) ? I'd hate to join a game and slow everyone down while I'm learning.

The easiest way to learn is to play. Go on a play money table at PartyPoker and have a shot. It works out all the rules for you so you can't do anything wrong and because it's play money it won't cost you anything.
And don't worry about slowing everything down - there's plenty of people already playing who do that anyway.

I'll be in on the Poker night!! Been playing at Victor Chandler for a bit :)

EDIT: Just a thought - could online poker be made more interesting by using Skype or similar with conference call (8 people at the table) and web cam pics on a webpage???

    www.pokerroom.com

I have been using for a while now - Play a few live games also and the only comment i would make about online poker is the amount of premium hands that you will see, compare to a live game.

Online - the amount of times you see a straight v straight or a full house v full house it incredible!

Playing live games at casinos in tournements, i have never seen a Full house v full house at the show of hands.

Pokerroom is good fun and you can easily set up a table of up to 10 players at a time.

Software seems fine to me and never had any problems with it
