It's been suggested that I consider PMC loudspeakers (model FB1) as a good compromise for a Home Cinema L+R pair and also as hi-fi speakers. It's a make I've not encountered before. Does anyone have any experience of them?

They always seem to get very good, solid reviews whenever tested in the mags.
Their pro pedigree at the very least helps to show you'd be buying quality stuff.
I can only suggest you let your ears decide, but I'd have them high on my priority list these days!!

Fantastic speakers - their bass is excellent and drops so low that you won't need to worry about getting a subwoofer. Check out the review of them at www.hifichoice.co.uk.

I've spent a lot of time working with PMCs, both big and small, and I have mixed feelings about them.

They all have enormous sound handling capability and response, but I find them a bit over-lively for a lot of normal listening. They'll show up every flaw in a source, so unless you can guarantee you will only ever be listening to top-notch sound, you may end up hating them.

My advice: audition them carefully with a variety of material.

    Definitly have a listen.
Preferably at Home, I didnt get on with them very well. But heard them at someone's house and thought they were OK.
A bit slack ( wooly ) in the bass region.
    Otherwise I agree with Adam.
