How does 'connectivity' rate 8/10. It has a pair of speaker connections which is all that is required for them to function so how did they get marked down 2 points? Confused by this.
8 is a default value; easy and logical to connect via a variety of speaker cable terminations to. The two higher point values then exist to acknowledge specialist extra features like crossover bypass, star earths and other unusual fitments.
I was thinking a mark was deducted, on emark per speaker, as they are single wiring/single amp connection only. How does 'connectivity' rate 8/10. It has a pair of speaker connections which is all that is required for them to function so how did they get marked down 2 points? Confused by this.
They’re “only” £600 more than the large stand mount (twenty5 22i). I guess that is accounted for by the extra cabinet and transmission line. Plus the saving you’d make by not having to buy stands (assuming you didn’t already that’s some).Nice speakers but do these warrant being nearly twice as much as the stand mounts? Where has the extra £1700 or so been spent?
Yes but £1700 more than the 21i to which they are compared to in the review. They’re “only” £600 more than the large stand mount (twenty5 22i). It's been a while since I listened to PMC speakers, but I've always liked them.
There is something about that transmission line bass that's very attractive to me.
The one thing I wonder about these speakers is the sharp edges near the speaker cones. You'll probably have reflections from those.
I wonder why there were a lot more affordable speakers with curved cabinets back 10-15 years ago, maybe a little earlier.@Ruffuz : I'm sure the PMC engineers know what they're doing. However, speaker design is always about compromise, the biggest being cost vs performance. What I know from speaker design a rectangular box is really undesirable as in least performing. It is however the easiest to assemble and transport.
Kef, Mission, Mordaunt short, Wharfedale used to have speakers available with curved cabinets that were a lot cheaper than today's body designs.
Maybe it's the angles of the pictures I see online but the cabinet sides don't look curved to me..The new rage of mission QX speakers are curved
I guess the real question is what does £1100 get you between the 21i and 22i given they’re both stand mounts?Yes but £1700 more than the 21i to which they are compared to in the review.
The sides and front baffle looks straight to mean unless you're referring to the edges. Im talking about curves cabinets rather than the edges. From the top @password1
The cabinet sides are straight on the Mission QX speakers. A proper curved design has the sides slightly curved and the back fully curved. Similar to this -From the top @password1
