Plz is there any DVD hacks for SONY DVP S725D

    Hi huys i was just wondering if there are any hacks for this DVD player because this is my fave DVD at the moment and sadly it doesnt even play CD-R's?:(
    Im hoping there are codes to make it play cd-r's, disable macrovision or to make it multiregional
    and id be dreaming to say progressive scan:)

    To get CD-R replay you need dual lasers.

    No chance of a remote hack to get it multi-region/macrovision, progressive scan requires new board/deinterlacer. Which yours hasn't got

    Sony's require a mod chip.

    If you want R1, I would buy a imported 110V machine, leave as R1, and leave yours as R2.

    Sony mods are a bit dodgy (I've got a 110V R1 Sony as well, I will not mod it)

    the 725 has dual lasers, and it'll read certain brands of CDR.

    but for all other features you'll need a hardware mod chip.

    PS ?? not a chance!

    I have found that Vivitar CD Rs work ok.

    They are available from www.pczoo.co.uk. Cheap but postage kills the price!!!! Its £5.50 delivery!!!

    But Ive bought these and tested them and they work on the Sony

    Its worth noting though that a bloke oposite me bought a spindle of 50 vivitars from Dixons and they didnt work when i tested them. Not sure how you tell which is which.

    What I do know is that its the coating on the CD that makes a difference and that Vivitar use a patented compound!!!

    If you do some googling on the subject you will find a wealth of information why the vivitars work with 1st generation DVD players and others dont.

    Edit: just noted that pczoo are doing 100 vivistars 650M in jewel case inc vat and postage for £30.75. This seems like a good deal.

    It should play CD-RW's. Mine does.

    CD-Rs are cheaper!!!!! and they do work, .......honest!
