After demoing both these amps i am none the wiser, it seems impossible to get a back to back demo to get a true picture.

I demoed the Denon on a M&K k3 system and the Onkyo 797 on a boston system. Both in completely different rooms. Both dealers said that they could get me the other amp but only to buy.

I dont think there will be a huge difference in the amps it would just be nice to get the opinion of ppl who have manged to get a decent demo.

I am purely interested in Movie playback.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Would have thought most dealers worth their salt would be happy to loan for the night. Can't you take them both home?

I think the Onkyo complies better to the rules (see threads on Denon and DPLII), after all it is THX certified...

I also think it sounds more dynamic, better menus and remote...

    I was being constructive!

Any dealer I've walked into is willing to loan the stuff out. What do you need two grand for?
You said that the reason you couldn't borrow them was because no dealer had both amps, which didn't make sense, and now you're talking about large sums of money.

You're not making yourself very clear.

No dealer has both amps so i cant do a back to back demo at the shop. And i dont have the cash to cover borrowing both amps.

If you dont think i need the money to cover borrowing an amp form a dealer, how do you provide sercurity?

I have used the same dealer for a number of years so they are quite happy to lend me anything without any kind of deposit or security. I would guess that different criteria are used by different shops which probably include how long you've been a customer of theirs.

Have you asked the shops what they would require as security? You might find that one or neither require a big deposit.

It might seem like a bit of hassle now, but once you've auditioned them at home you will know that you've got the best amp for you and won't have that nagging doubt at the back of your mind :)

    Cheers,
    Liam

Thanks for the input, but i will be buying the Rear speakers, center speaker and DVD player at the same time as i buy the Amp.

So i wont really be able to do a home demo to easily.

The only way i thought i could do it is to find a dealer that can provide the Denon 3802 and Onkyo 797 to do a home demo, but i cant find one in my area.

Well Essential home cinema quotes £999

Sevenoaks reckoned it was £1100 until i asked them to check and they will be phoning me tommorow, so i will let you know.

Theres another shop near me who reckons he can get 15% off Onkyo stuff.

Laservision in bristol, i cant fond the number at hand so i will have a look tommorow for you.
