    Hi,

Got a total budget of £300 to buy the following with:

    1 - Amp
2 - 5 speakers + sub (2 rears need to be on stands)
3 - DVD Upscaler that plays all Divx, Xvid and takes USB

I've taken advise on an earlier thread to buy separates, but I'm totaly clueless of where to begin.

My Setup is a Panasonic 42" PX80 with Standard Sky - I don't have a HD Games console or any other HD source - although I do plan on connecting my Laptop to play 720p films so need an optical input on the amp to take the sound feed.

One thing - I really want to be able to dock my iPod with this amp to make good use of a really good sound system. Have previously had a Cambridge Dock suggested, which I'm happy with - but if there was an amp that had this build in, then it would be nicer (one less remote control etc!)

Please could someone suggest an Amp for me? Speakers too, if possible?

(If I've put this in the wrong forum, please could someone kindly move it for me?)

    Thanks in advance!

For £300 you'll have to look for an all-in-one system or think about going second hand for it all. most amps that are semi 'future-proofed' in terms of HD sound capability start around £250-£300 alone.

I really cannot find a all in one that does everything I want.

    I'm really getting frustrated :(

I had a look earlier , at that budget its either cut the list and compromise with an all in one , or save up some more cash Im afraid.

An upscaling DVD player won't break the bank, you can get a good one for £50 easily. There's a Sony system, i think it's the DDG-W800 or something available from pixmania that might do the job for you or you could get the Sony DGR 820 and try and get some second hand speakers for around £50 or so?

You could also look at something like the Yamaha AV63 or AV63+ packages and as already mentioned, buy a cheap philips dvd player (or 2nd hand).

So - I think I can pick up a DVD player for about £65 or so.

That leaves £250 for an Amp and some speakers - surely that's not out of the question? There are all-in-one systems for that

Confused as to how this is so expensive. I don't want anything top end - just value for money.

For speakers there is the Yamaha NSP110's, they are a 5.1 speaker package, from what I have seen they are quite good for the price (apparently the sub can be a bit boomy),
but at around £80 total, not bad at all.

Thinking about getting them myself, either them or some secondhand off ebay.

    Hope this helps a bit.
