I am looking to by my first Plasma and have tried to read as may review on as may different models and I thought I had it sussed and was going to buy the Hitachi 42PD5200 and then called sound and vision to just get some last advise when I was told that the Philips 42PF9945 was a much better picture and cost a lot less. That kind of baseless advice sounds like they are short of Hitachi and overstocked on Philips. Personally I wouldn't cross the road for the proverbial fire duty for either of these 2, but tastes differ. I'm sure a decent demo of a few plasmas would get your priorities sorted out.

Hi MAW I have been to about 5 outlets for this and as always you get conflicting advice. I have seen a lot of demo’s and being completely new to this I thought it would be wise to get some hints from the people who have been there. What do you have?

Me, I'm a loyal subject of King Panasonic and Queen Pioneer. As a seller of these infernal devices, (I'm actually a custom installer rather than a 'shop') I do get to see them all, and live with about 300 very picky rich clients. In order to sleep at night, my list of plasmas that I will sell to the uninitiated is very very short. I personally watch a Panasonic 42PHD7. I would willingly watch a PW7 if not, or perhaps an NEC VP5. NEC have the best warranty in the biz. They are also future proof, unlike many many other screens including my own. Been testing/running in an NEC for a bit, happier now with it than I initially was. My biz partner has a Pioneer 50-MXE, but I think Pioneer is out of budget. NEC and Panasonic PW are the 2 from my list to look at.

    Maw,
Do you use your Panny with a PC or games consoles? If so...any good? trying to get my head round whether it's worth me going for a higher native screen res to keep me happy when using a PC.

I have a 5300 and it's great. The only other TV which came anywhere close was the Pioneer 435, and that was close on a grand more. It has several (well deserved) "Best Buy" awards. I wouldn't ever touch a Philips - too many bad experiences in the past.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have been sat reading so many treads constantly for about 4hrs it seems that the thing to do is pay your money and take your chance. I do not know much about all this plasma issue but the help from a forum like this I think is priceless to someone like me. I’m still not sure what to get there seems to be fans for Hitachi & Panasonic and I think reading all the PQ issues with Hitachi has confused me a bit as I thought they were quality when I see the Demo in the shops, are there PQ issues with Panasonic7W? Unfortunately there is only Comet or Curry’s around here and you know what they can be like, Thanks again and any more advice would be greatly received.
