If you're at a McDonalds - they have BT OpenZone:
    turn on the wifi
tell the PSP to search for networks
when it finds the BT Open Zone tell it to use that
a welcome to Open Zone web page will be displayed
from this page you can buy time on the network and start browsing

Don't know about t-mobile, which I think Starbucks use but I imagine it's very similar. Just get the PSP to sniff for a network and they should have a welcome page.

The McDonalds here said they had free Wi-Fi access. Using the PSP, it obviously wasn't true.

It's free to use - once you pay the BT people. The wording is a con!

I took my sons PSP around the local streets and found quite a few open Wifi's (no security) the way I found them is like this.

    Go to network settings
    Choose infrastructure mode
    new connection
    press right then select scan
find your wifi connection and follow prompts if you select all the right settings it will test the connection
if all is ok goto the web browser and connect via this connection

there may be easier ways buit this worked for me
