Hello people,

My dear lady wants a decent 5.1 setup in HER bedroom so i need your advice regarding the choice of a reciever. The bedrooms about 12 by 12 feet.

So far I have bought:

PS2 (4 me)
5 Tannoy mx2 as satellite
1 Tannoy saturn s8c 4 centre
Viewsonic n2010 lcd
Phillips DVDR 70
Sky.

I'd like to get a decent sound but nothing ott and using rgb or component if possible.

My reciever shortlist includes:

Arcam avr100 from fleabay
Yammy 750
Pio 1014

Main interest is obviously sky and dvds.

Thanks.

Any of these will do the job.
If you want good quality Stereo too, then go for the Arcam

Thanks Lister. do u think its got enough power 4 the speakers?

HI nashb,
If your talking about the Arcam, then it's got 70 watts per channel, I think this is will be fine.

But I really think you should go out and get some demos first, before you buy anything.
good luck. :smashin:

1014 should pretty easily outperform 750, but that's just my opinion from gathering info on the forums. Both are good with movies, Pio has better autosetup though. And lots more power I think. RX-V1500 is more there..

I've heard thats there not much difference between the 1014 and the 5axi just different marketing as there from two different ranges. So it's more of a 1500 or 2500 than a 750. I think the avr 100 was arcams top range reciever a few years ago so it'll be competing against the 1500/1014 (power wise altough it has a lot less features and only 3 digital inputs) alough i have heard that some can have problems, but i'm sure most wont. Ask on the arcam forum they'll be able to help.

If your after 'nothing fancy' then the 750 with be more than up to the job, and as it's a bed room you'll not need that much power to fill the room. Also the arcam 70watts is all channels driven (100 watts mono or 80 watts stero I think), which is probably equal or more than the other amps mentioned, when they have all channels driven.

I reviewed many receivers before choosing the 1014 it seemed to have so much more clout than those mentioned and is so good imho at cinima and audio duties. a german reveiwer rated it the best out of all the up to £1000 receivers my findings too, nearest to this very close was the marantz 7400 now upgraded to 7500 imho you should go listen yourself though, family man an esteemed installer on these forums swears by oyonko stuff but i could not find a dealer that would let me compare oyonko receivers in my area but might /should be worth a listen if you have a dealernear by? the pioneer walked over the yamahas and the denon competing receivers but of course this was only my opinion yours / others may be not hear what i was hearing of course abnett. :)

Thanks for all the help. But I was worried about matching the reciever to the speakers.

Anybody own the Tannoys and what recievers do u use?
