Hi, I had originally the Dali E12-F which was nice however it was simply not taut or articulate enough for my musical tastes.

Then I tried the MS Mezzo 9 - which was nothing short of spot on, but I had a technical fault with it.

I then tried the BK XLS200 which was a cracking sub, I was impressed with it so I decided to try the BK XXLS400 which was also a great sub, but I had a problem and decided to return it.

So I am looking for something different to try now.

I have my eye on these subs, would really appreciate some opinions from the experts on avforums, I am leaning towards the SVS however I must consider alternatives as well.

    SVS SB1000
    SVS SB12 NSD
    B&W ASW610
    Dali Ikon Sub Mk2

I cannot get out to demo anything so I need to try and get a consensus on here and take a gamble.

    Much appreciated.

I must clarify I like a sub which is fast enough to keep up with my speakers with music and also tuneful as well.

Well the BK's are known for being virtually unbeatable in the £400-500 spot with their XXLS400/Mono so other than that the SVS SB1000/PB1000 is the next best solid performer or the more expensive SB12NSD.

I think the SB would be best for you being sealed, other than that not much else has the performance/value to match these subs really.

I had a feeling this was going to draw focus lol

I would be happier if you gave me your opinion on the subs I listed!

I have ordered the SVS SB12 NSD - I can change this if you advise as I have a lot of faith in the advice from this forum.

To be honest I don't think you will gain much all of the subs in this range are very similar and perform very very similar.

    Hi,

I might be putting up a Cambridge Audio Minx X500 for sale if that might interest you? It really is quite a impressive sub & also is compact in terms of form factor.

    Suave!

I think the SVS SB12 NSD is going to be a bit better than that one thanks though mate.

What price are you looking at?

Thanks very much for the input mojo, it's appreciated, and yes I am well aware of the SB13 Ultra lol however if I had near £2000 for a SUB right now that would be on it and my list would be very different lol

trying to find the best choice for me with £500-600 at most.

As I said I have the SB12 NSD arriving soon and if I get on well with that I can always add another down the line for a more even response and a little more punch, it's not like I have a huge room anyway.

I should just point out that the SUB I am actually replacing is the Dali E-12F that was the first one, it had more power than I could shake a turkey at (PLENTY OF POWER) this was not the problem, I felt it was not quite agile/articulate enough for my tastes (which is apparently the thing with ported designs) the search has been on since.

I'm sure you will be very happy with x2 SB12NSD's if that's the direction you go down and I hope you get along well with the one you've ordered as there a good sub by all accounts:)

If you didn't like the xxls400, I can't see why you would want a sb12, same driver, similar cabinet, slightly different amp.... Not going to be the world of difference. There is a big gap in sub's between 500ish and then 1100 which is the dxd808 them you get the USC 15 for 1400 then there is more choice around the 2k mark!

Not sure why you think I would know this.

Also there are others on the list, I was not really advised a great deal in this thread so I made a choice.

And I never said I did not LIKE the XXLS400.

I gave a budget to work within, and was, probably rightly told, there was not going to be much in it.

You were informed from your list that yes there wouldn't be much in it in terms of performance from that of the bk xxls400 and the others in your list......imho the only way you could best any of those listed by some margin for around £500 / £600 is to build your own! or if not be satisfied with a more compromised sub in its performance.

As for the other sub's in your list I can't see how the sb1000 would an upgrade from amn xxls400, the same goes for the other two but i could be wrong. What didn't you like about the xxls400, or why did you return it, as for that money that's the kind of performance you get.... Well commercially that is

I have read both of those threads before.

I should have mentioned this before really, there is not really any 'UPGRADE' going on here, I just still have no SUB and I am looking for the best I can get for the stated budget, and those are 4 subs I have looked at, happy to consider any other, or pick the best options from the list, any opinions are very much appreciated.

The very reason I am looking more at sealed subs is because APPARENTLY they have a tendency for more taut, controlled bass.

As you have stated and others in various threads there isn't much between most of the subs you have mentioned specifically the xxls400/sb12 so it comes down to price and which sub is aesthetically pleasing to you..............if not wait until you have saved up some more money and buy a sub that is a clear upgrade in quality and performance.

Many thanks for the input, appreciate the advice.

Any thoughts on the Dali Ikon and where about it fits in the list? it's the only ported SUB I have listed and it has only 250w however, it is meant to be a cracking sub.

problem is, so are the others.

If you you want tight fast bass:facepalm: then I would look at sealed subs not ported unless you had a bigger budget.......

I do understand the position your in, if it was me i would go with

If i wanted a gloss black sub: SVS SB12
    If i wanted a wood/DF sub : XXLS400

Or what i ended up doing

Save more and buy a KK DXD808 or SB13 ultra (depending on which one comes up for a good price first).

From my experience, i did not find speaker manufactures subwoofers are good value in comparison to companies which specialise in making them, being velodyme, paradyme(Spelling mistake), SVS, JL Audio, BK etc. The only exception to that might be the companies which specialise in making home cinema sub/sat setups (jamo, KK, MK Sound, Teufel etc), they tend to make better subs as they play such a huge part in there speaker packages.

    Just my views.
