Please help I'm having problems with connection between a Loewe 9281 and Sony DAVS800

I have just bought a Loewe 9281 (it's so lush) and the Sony DAVS800 system and at the moment they are connected using the monitor out from the DAVS800 into the front of the Loewe. This enables me to play my DVDs through the AVS channel on the TV, but how do I get normal TV to output through the DAVS800.

I am fairly inexperienced so could someone also advise me what is the best setup between the two. Should I use the video out from the DAVS800 into one of the Scarts on the back of the Loewe.

Help would be much appreciated.

What you need is an s-video to scart cable which can plug into any of the scarts - then you can use whichever of AV1/2/3 you have used. (This gets rid of the cable out of the front)

Thanks Badger. Any idea where I can get the cable, would Dixons do it (there's one right opposite where I work) or do I need to go to a specialist?

Do I still need to use the input at the front of the TV to play the DVDs? I would prefer to use a connection at the back of the TV since it looks messy with the wire coming round the front.

Somewhere like dixons or richer sounds will be able to help you out, somone else'll probably recommend some online places/brands too.

This won't put TV sound through your DAVS800 though, and the DVD picture quality will be more or less the same - but it'll be a lot neater.

I think the Acondas have a pair of phono plugs on the back - if these are set to output the tv audio then they could be connected to one of the phono inputs on your DAVS800 - I can' remeber if this will work though

In order to get standard "TV" sound through your DAV speakers (which I think is what you're trying to achieve), you need to buy a standard hifi interconnect and connect it from the pre-outs on the back of your TV to the line inputs on the back of the DAV. Selecting the video input as the function on your DAV should then give you what you're after :) The menu's on the Loewe set's allow you to select whether sound is output through the TV or a seperate hi-fi (go to the sound menu) so you may need to switch this to hifi in order for the pre-outs on the TV to be activated but I may be wrong on this.

Leads should be available from most decent hi-fi stores and as Badger mentioned, an S-Video to Scart lead would also be a good investment so you can get rid of the annoying wire on front of the TV... I think the Loewe sets also take a standard S-Video lead via the back of the sets too so if you're short on scarts this is another option...

Hope this helps...

Kelvin.

Thanks guys, I think I know now what I need to do to get all the wires going round the back and get the TV sound coming through the DAVS800 ;)

I am a little confused by the terminology though, what are the pre-outs

The preouts are just a pair of phono plugs like you would find on the back of your DAVS800 - they will supply the TV sound prior to amplification - hence preouts
