Please don't take it personally but I've just deleted a bunch of threads by Ekko Star containing lots of screen shots.

I'm calling in Forum rule #4, here
'Post any images or text which are pornographic or violent or otherwise inappropriate for the viewing by younger and older people alike '

We have to take along term stance of not letting the forums get clogged up with lots of pointless images.
    Screenshots are pointless images.
    See this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42291
    to see why.

Since they are pointless I'm saying they are inappropriate.
If you want to show off your home cinema, please upload the images to your own site and refer to them there.

You could accuse me of being a bit harsh here but then you'd be breaking another forum rule :).
Sorry but the forums aren't an endless expanse of disk space and so no more screenshots uploaded, please.

    Hi Spectre,

Firstly thanks for a GREAT board. I have only been a member for a couple of weeks now and learnt so much.

With all the images I have added, I've always used the IMG feature on this board, but I have noticed some times the pictures don't seem to appear, even after a refresh. I know the pictures are on the net.

]For example if you click on this link, I know I can see the images but bert can't.

    Best Regards
    Amelia

If one person can see the image then if another can't it's their system at fault.
I.e. logic dictates that if it works at, it should work always.

Is leeching allowed Spectre? ie. using the img tag to link to the pics on your own webspace like this:

Have to agree with you at least in the case of eckostar. His screenshot postings were rather excessive:)

Leeching from your own website isn't realy leeching. It's fine by me.

Yeah I wasn't sure about that term 'leeching'. I knew it was probably the wrong word. Oh and thanks for answering the post.......3 months later! :D :D Better late than never. :D :D

You mean you don't Spectre?

    Shock/horror ;)

Hope my recent few "leeched" HS-10 screenies don't matter - on my own webspace as Calibos said - not "taking" from precious avforums server space.

Want to have a chat with Comer for that ;)

Merry Christmas/prosperous/"flood free" HTPC new year Conor :p

Time to "bump" this thread methinks :)

Everyone like screenshots but remember our poor 56k members. Nothing worse than clicking on a thread only for it to take 5 minutes to load fully :(

I'd ask members to resize pictures and/or just post links to larger uploaded pictures.

Keeps the forum speeding along for those in 56k land.

    Cheers :smashin:

It may be useful to put some details about image optimisation in a thread somewhere, perhaps in a sticky. There won't be many on the forum that are full time web developers and won't realise that uploading a 1Mb file to a server is going to cause havoc for anyone without a 2Mb ADSL line.

that way, even if people are placing links to images on their own site at least the images will be of an appropriate files size.

    chris

PS. I'd be happy to write some details on setting up images if asked, at least from within Adobe Photoshop. Maybe others could detail how to do it in Paintshop Pro or whatever.

    SPECTRE IS YOUR GOD

On a more serious note, does this include all posted pictures?

Or, does it mean we can't post pictures of our setups in the 'DIY' section etc?

Why not just post a link to your image? If everyone starts uploading large files to the server it slows down to a crawl, more so for those on a 56k dial up. This way you can still show your pride and joy to anyone who wishes to see it.
