I need to purchase a DVD recorder for my wife for her nth birthday. She needs equipment that can be used to record TV programmes (digital & terrestrial) via cable. She also needs something that can accept input from a VHS recorder in order to copy some of her most valued tapes on to DVDs. Ideally, she would like to edit out unwanted adverts from programmes, by recording the broadcast programmes to DVD recorder, editing and then saving them permanently on DVD. We are also likely to view the DVDs on our PCs using Windows Media Player.

Please can anyone suggest a suitable recorder at a modest price (£200-£500)?
